Your Led Teacher Joan Hyman
Joan Hyman leads the Schoolof. yoga™ and has collaborated with Cristina Holopainen who has been an amazing business mentor to many yoga teachers and wellness professionals over the years.
Joan has practiced the methods of Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga for well over twenty years. She is passionate about spreading the benefits of these ancient practices and wants to encourage yoga teachers to find their authentic path.
Joan’s intention is to create a level of excellence that helps to raise the bar and maintain a high level of quality in the yoga world. She believes this will create a more authentic place for students to grow their paths as teachers and for their own practice to continue to evolve. She also partners with yoga schools in various corners of the world on developing their teacher training programs.
Why you can trust SOY.
You will be guided and mentored by highly experienced teachers from all around the globe. The SOY’s Faculty is composed of teachers and trainers that have at least twenty years of experience in teaching yoga, building communities and are authentic modern-day yogis. Joan has diligently selected a lineup of teachers who have their own unique style of teaching and are leaders in the world of yoga including Annie Carpenter, Marla Apt, Lisa Walford, Jeanne Heileman. She has included guest teachers like Simon Park, Jill Ippolito (Trauma Informed), and JP Cox (Prenatal).
Our intention is to bridge the gap between the classical lineages of yoga as taught by Krishnamacharya and his disciples Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois. These styles taught together create what most of us know as vinyasa flow. Our intention is to keep these lineages alive in the growing yoga communities today.

Join Joan in India for her 150 Hour Teacher Training! This training will run every other year and you can take the other hours online or in person. Most in person trainings aside from Goa are 50 Hours and online modules run from 15 - 30 Hour. If you continue taking a course once a month for a year along with the 150 Hours, you will graduate in less then two years.
-
As long as you like! We encourage you to take your time and choose modules that interest you and fit your schedule. The learning process takes times and we find if you learn at a relaxed rate, you will retain the information better and it helps you integrate the practice deeper into your Being.
-
Yes of course! Email Joan and let her know which courses and with which teachers you have taken. As long as it meets our guidelines we can carry over some hours.
-
Yes, it's recommended. SOY runs about two two hundred hour trainings a year. Even though we have had some students take some modules of the 300 hour first, it's much more cohesive to start at the beginning. That said, we are flexible and if a module in the 300 Hour interest you, you are welcome to take that module and do the 200 hour after.
